Introduction

Paris is the organ paradise on earth! This beautiful city houses 234 organs. The oldest organs were built in the 16-17th century, a large quantity was built in the 19th century by the famous organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, and even now, regularly new organs add to the fascinating and diverse organ landscape of Paris.
126 organs (among which 42 choir organs) are property of the city of Paris, which has only a yearly budget of 250.000 euros for maintenance and restoration works.

This website has the ambition to present all organs of Paris. Since the revolution constitute a sharp distinction in the history of Parisian organ building, it is divided into two parts:
- the first section is devoted to the organs built before the revolution who survived this period until today
- the second section is devoted to the organs built after the revolution (by Cavaillé-Coll, Suret, Merklin, Stoltz and othe builders) and is still in progress.
